Following the ever-changing landscape of 2020 it may seem somewhat futile to predict what 2021 holds in store for the building and construction industry, however there are some definite imprints from 2020 that I believe will influence and change the year ahead.
Speaking with UK Construction Online, I highlighted 3 key areas that I believe will change the direction of our industry in 2021. Underpinning many of these areas is technology and as an industry it’s time for us to seize this opportunity for change and reap the benefits.

Building purposes are changing in light of reduced demand for retail and office space following the Covid-19 pandemic. I predict some significant development opportunities in 2021.
As an industry we lag behind the technology curve and Covid-19 has meant we’ve had to adopt new technology processes and reduce our reliance on manual processes. We saw the introduction of remote site inspections and online portals in 2020 and there is certainly no reason to treat this as a short-term solution. This is something we should build on for future efficiencies and prevention of risk.
