Access Expert joins Assent
We welcome on board Tracey and Martin Burgess, who are based in Bicester, Oxfordshire and are a married couple. Their background is in Building Control and Accessibility, working professionally together in the U.K. and recently in Australia.
Martin is a Chartered Building Surveyor and qualified access consultant with the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC). His experience extends back to the inception of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) in the 1990’s, working on numerous international projects.
Martin said, “No two projects are alike, frequently resulting in issues even on a new project, with challenges to the broader infrastructure or topography, which can work against achieving navigable access routes.”
“Technical guidance exists but there is often scope to consider a ‘package’ of measures, including management, to ensure that the provisions of the Equality Act are met. This is particularly relevant to existing buildings, constrained sites and listed buildings”
He provides practical and policy / procedural advice to clients along with broader guidance on issues such as emergency egress for disabled people. It also includes the core activity of desktop appraisals and accessibility audits of the built environment.
Having worked in the public and private sector Building Control environment, he also has considerable experience of large projects across the UK, including major commercial, retail and health developments in London and the South of England.
Tracey is also a Chartered Building Control professional having worked with in public and private sector Building Control in the UK, together with construction consultancies in Australia. She has considerable Business Development and Marketing experience working to assist clients and service delivery.
They are located in North Oxfordshire allowing them easy access across the UK, to provide advice and support on Building Control and Inclusive Design matters.
