The Assent Sheffield office have two of their projects shortlisted for the RIBA Yorkshire regional building of the year competition. Working as part of the design team and undertaking the building control function on two University of Sheffield buildings, they have made it onto the shortlist of 11 buildings.
The Diamond is an £81m teaching and learning facility and the AMRC with Boeing’s Factory 2050 is one of the most advanced factories in the world. The Diamond which opened for students in September 2015 is the universities largest ever investment in learning and teaching. The impressive six storey building with a dramatic diamond shaped façade in anodised aluminium was designed by Twelve Architects, London.
Assent’s work included assessment of a complex fire engineering strategy to incorporate the central atrium and high student numbers to the lecture theatres situated in the basement.
Factory 2050 is the newest addition to the universities advanced manufacturing research campus on Sheffield Business Park, which Assent has been working with the University of Sheffield on for a number of years and have already undertaken building control services on five new advanced manufacturing research buildings on the site. These include, the NAMRC (Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre), KTC (Knowledge Transfer Centre), AMRC CC (Composite Centre), DPTC (Design & Prototyping) and AMI-TC training centre which is helping to train the next generation of apprenticeship engineers.
The revolutionary, circular, glass-walled, reconfigurable factory was designed by Bond Bryan Architects, Sheffield, constructed by Interserve and is currently being fitted out with state-of-the-art advanced technologies in robotics, automation and assembly that will drive it’s research.
