5 new town houses built on the banks of the River Arun in Littlehampton. Designed by RIBA award winning ‘John Pardey Architects,’ they reflect the Victorian warehouses that once occupied the site and that served the busy mercantile industry along the riverside. The three storey dwellings are built in engineered timber framework supported off a steel deck composite floor slab that transfers the loading to the new piled foundations via a steel framework that forms the open sided car park at ground level. The innovative design retains the Victorian flint and brick facades alongside the new cedar and glass clad elevations to give an interesting blend of ‘old meets new’ whilst overcoming issues such as the risk of flooding and the need to meet today’s energy efficiency requirements that modern day living demands.
