The Importance of Retrofitting Historical Buildings in the UK’s Journey to Net Zero

Recent reports by The National Trust, Peabody, Historic England, The Crown Estate and Grosvenor state that for the UK to achieve Net Zero, there needs to be significant growth in the low carbon economy of which the construction industry must play a large role in.

With a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions coming from buildings including historical buildings, retrofitting and refurbishing has become more critical than ever in aiding the country reach its Net Zero targets.

In this article, John Miles, Assent Group Associate Partner Network Director, talks though the challenges of making pre-existing heritage buildings compliant and sustainable and what can be done to overcome these.
