What the Future Homes Standard means to Developers

By now we are all aware of the governments goals to become carbon natural. This includes the new Future Homes Standard Consultation, with targets such as the banning of fossil fuel boilers in new homes and cutting carbon emissions by 80% compared to current standards by 2025. New build homes are now being future-proofed to achieve low carbon heating and world-leading levels of energy efficiency.

John Miles Group Business Development Director at Assent, spoke to Specification Magazine about what these changes will mean to developers. In this article, Miles covers regulations on refurbs and alterations, conservation of fuel and power and the need for a two-prong approach to building fabric and efficiency of anything with a carbon-based output.
