Fire Risk in Heritage Buildings

Fire Risk in Heritage Buildings
27th August 2021

Heritage buildings are lost to fire on a yearly basis. They present unique challenges, due to their time of construction having no safety regulations. But it is up to the construction industry to ensure that work carried out on these unique and wonderful buildings, follows compliance to the current safety standards, without compromising the building’s historic fabric and features.

In this article, Richard Williams, Divisional Director, Assent & Oculus Building Consultancy talks to Ecclesiastical and Heritage World about what building owners must to do in order to protect a heritage site, including, Fire Risk Assessments, use of compartmentation to reduce the risk of fire spreading, automatic fire detection systems to give early warning of a fire and more.

You can read a much more detailed version at Ecclesiastical and Heritage Magazine. If you’d like to discuss how Assent can support your building projects, please get in touch.
